Foundation of Mitakoodi Aboriginal Corporation

Our story

Mitakoodi Aboriginal Corporation (ICN: 16) came under the auspices of OPAL (One People of Australia League) which was set up in 1961 by the Christian denominations and voluntary service organisations and a voice for the Aboriginal People prioritising in Aboriginal Housing.

In the early 1970s the Mitakoodi Housing Co-operative Society was registered under the Association of Incorporation Act of Queensland, now known as the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC) which regulates the corporations that are incorporationed under the Corporations: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Act 2006 (CATSI Act).

​Mitakoodi Aboriginal Corporation has for many years provided affordable housing to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the local area, owning and managing 71 properties.

Our Board of Directors are elected into office by the members of the organisation to oversee the Management of Mitakooodi Aboriginal Corporation. 

We are proud to have these 7 people volunteer their time and energy into supporting our staff Manager the day-to-day operations and the programs we deliver.

We are in the process of hiring two casual sports and recreation officers.  Will update staff members on website once we have employed our staff.
